SUBJECT: Blog post analysis memo
DATE: Jan 25, 2009
We are now preparing to run our spring focus group sessions. As a new member of a Proximity media team, you should send a memo to your team commenting on a blog or news post that you think might help them develop questions for your team's sessions. The proposal should be written in standard memo form (1-2 pp) addressed to members of your media team.
What to include in the memo Your memo should:
summarize the post or news item;
discuss the significance of the item for Proximity readers and clients;
suggest possible focus group questions related to the item.
You can find items to use for you memo on the wiki resources page You should use APA style to document your source item.
How to organize the memo Follow the memo format in Effective Business Writing, Ch. 3. Address the memo to your media team and give it an informative title. Begin with an unheaded introduction in which you provide a context for the memo and forecast its major points. Use descriptive topic headings for first order sections in the body of the memo and bulleted lists, when needed, for items under each heading.
You should post a draft of the memo on our wiki before class on Feb. 1/2. Final hard copy is due at the start of class on Feb. 8/9.
